Between the Storms

We have had some very welcome rain.  The garden, the smaller portion and I are grateful.  The cats?  Not so much.

The night before last, after a grey and wet day, the skies briefly cleared.

Beautiful wasn't it?  And then the skies closed in and we got more rain.  Still welcome.

  1. We'll have the left-overs, please!

  2. Brilliant colours in those pics!
Had the odd drop or 3 here in Melb, too ;)

  3. dinahmow: Left-over rain or colours? I suspect the rain will be gone by tomorrow. Lovely while it lasted. I lived on tank water for way too long to ever complain about rain.

Jayne: Very dramatic aren't they? It seems that it is southern Oz which is getting wet for a change.

  4. When I was younger and crossing the sydney harbour bridge every day in the evening I'd look out over the harbour at the sky. The clouds. It was like there was another universe, another life beyond. I used to think it was heaven and how much I'd be happy if my departed friend and family were to call that their new home.

  5. Wow. How beautiful. And it looks as though you have a good vantage point.

I'm sure the cats will survive a bit of wet weather.

  6. Gemma@ My Big Nutshell: There is something magical about the sky - and particularly over water isn't there?

Cat Drawings: I took these from my front verandah, looking down the valley.

And the cats trying very hard to convince us that they are sadly put upon. A lie.

  7. They are stunning pictures, EC. They remind me of the clips that the 'Christian Television Association' would slip in at the end of their TV commercials in the seventies....

...and I mean that in a good way - your photos are incredible and there's no annoying religious message at the end!

  8. Rain is wonderful. No need to water! And I tend to like the way rain keeps the cats close to home, even if they don't think it's a plus. Beautiful sunset indeed!

  9. Kath: I am glad you clarified that, and no, you won't ever find a religious message here. I use a point and shoot camera and it has been kind to me.

Paper Chipmunk: I agree with you on both counts. It is starting to get hot here and dragging hoses around is low on my list of preferred jobs.

  10. Gorgeous sunset!
We had rain here in Adelaide last night, quite a lot overnight, so there's more coming your way in a day or two.

  11. Those colours are astounding. It almost looks like a watercolour painting.

  12. we're entering the gray and gloomy days.... those colors are fabulous!

  13. Beautiful pictures. Our rain is ubiquitous at this time of the year so it's not quite so welcome. We feel the same welcome for the sun when it makes an appearance. :-)

  14. Beautiful Photos, and they would make a beautiful painting.

  15. Wow - just stunning skies!

  16. Gorgeous photos. How nice that it rained on all the stuff you just planted. The post about your busy week sounded busy indeed, and varied as well with lots of things to think about. I admire your determination.

  17. Spectacular sunset, it only dribbled down rain here in Melbourne it was more show than substance really disappointing :-).

  18. Beautiful! Monsoonal rains have been sluicing Sydney too.

  19. Beautiful photos of the mysterious sky we are hurtling through.
I love being out in the rain in the garden. Apparently the elevated nitrogen levels have an effect on mood. But then I don't have furry paws to shake.

  20. What a lot of lovely comments. Thank you.
River: I hope we do get the rain that has just left you. The garden can always do with more.

mybabyjohn/Delores: When I saw it, I thought that if I saw those colours in a painting I would sniffily say 'Exaggerated'.

daisyfae: I envy you your cooler weather, but not the grey.

DJan: We have had far too many years of drought for me to ever mind the rain. That said, a little sunshine is nice too.

Sienna: With your artistry perhaps you could paint it in a way which looks genuine.

    ladyfi: Thank you.

Anne: Thank you. Yes, all the new plantings will be loving it. I must get those dahlias in...

Windsmoke: It was spectacular. Dribbling rain I refer to as incontinent pigeon rain - splat, splat and it is over.

Mitzi: We haven't had near as much as you (as usual) but it has been very welcome.

Marshall Stacks: Walking in the rain is so special. We had a cat who liked to lie in it, but this pair are made of sugar and come inside. I love your description of the mysterious sky we are hurtling through.

  21. Yes, it is beautiful. But I don't like when it rains too long. My cat either :)))

Today is very cold in my country. Everything (nature, air, everything) is waiting for winter. I know I will be missing the rain when I will see only the falling snowflakes behind the window.

  22. Ken G: I am envious of your snow. I like winter much more than summer - and we almost never get snow.

And no, our cats complain loudly when they feel it has rained too often or too long, but we have had some severe droughts so they don't have a lot to complain about.

  23. Oh my, those skies are absolutely gorgeous and the colors just about take your breath away. I enjoy the rain just so long as it doesn't hang on for days and days. Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by.

  24. Denise: Thank you. We don't ever get enough rain to get sick of it. The cats perhaps, me never.

  25. We need the rain too....glad you got a little

  26. Kim @ Stuff: Someone once told me that you can keep things alive by watering them, but to get growth you need rain. And I think she was pretty close to being right.

  27. What a sky! What a great God we serve!

  28. I don’t want to complain, but I don’t like cold. I remember how I loved to build a snowman in childhood, but today I simply freezing in winter and dream only about a cup of hot tea in my hand after work.
In general, this one who lives in warm country would like more cold, and this one who is cold all the time, is dreaming of the heat :)))

  29. Ken G: I am so sorry that you are miserable in the cold and it is true, I feel that way about heat.

  30. I thought I liked picture number one better until I blew them up and saw the low clouds and hills in number two.

  31. Snowbrush: The colours in the first were more dramatic but I also was pleased that I had caught the hills and the low clouds in the second.

  32. OMG! Those are breathtaking, Sue.
